Would you like to learn the third step in #problemsolving?

Updated: Aug 9, 2020

Welcome to ProTech Voice's English Grammar and Communication quick tips.

Today's quick tip is: Listing the criteria in a solution is the third step in problem solving.

Today we will discuss the third step in problem solving. The third step is determining the criteria of the solution. Let’s take the example from step two, Carla’s troop. Remember the troop wanted to know how to create a fundraiser. Now, in the third step we will help the troop list the criteria in helping them with the fundraiser. Let’s say they want to raise $3,000, have every troop member volunteer 6 hours to the fundraiser, and spend no more than $700 from their treasury. By listing these criteria, it allows group members to brainstorm effectively by providing solutions that are generally accepted by other members. Without criteria for the solution it may cause problems among the group. Bringing forward suggestions may cause group members to argue for their solution which may not sufficiently fix the problem or is achievable. By listing these criteria based on priority can keep group members focused on solving the problem effectively with the majority agreeing.

Today’s suggestion: When problem solving remember to list the criteria first before you start suggesting ways to fix the problem. You want to remain within your goals and not lose focus or get sidetracked from the problem. Enjoy fixing today’s problems by being skilled in the art of problem solving. Join us next time as we look at step four in problem solving.
